Travel Diary Days 59 - 65: Canggu, Bali, Indonesia

Wow, it's been quite some time since I've published on the blog! In fact, it's now been over a year since we were in Indonesia. Being the Aquarian that I am, I couldn't just NOT finish the Southeast Asia Travel Diary series. Indonesia was the final stop! And so, with these posts, I finally complete the travel series, and will get back to blogging about other cool things soon! Plus a podcast in the works! Stay tuned and join my mailing list at the bottom of the page ;)

I now live in Costa Rica, in case you didn't know. I've lived here for over a year, which is why I haven't been blogging much. I manage a yoga retreat center and vegan restaurant here!

My husband and I are no longer together, which is totally fine! We are still great friends, we just realised that we wanted different lifestyles. Finishing this post is like closing the circle, in a lot of ways, and being able to start fresh and cover my new adventures as Rima the Jungle Girl.

But first, let's talk Canggu!

After Vietnam, we flew into Bali, Indonesia. We were really excited to arrive. Our first stop was 5 nights in Canggu at Serenity Eco Guesthouse. We stayed as guests of the hotel but they also host group retreats that you can join. I covered their Serene Yoga Retreat program on the blog, if you're interested in an affordable but quality yoga retreat in Canggu, I highly recommend this one!

Hanging Out in Canggu

My friend Kayla met us for this part of the journey and we had a fabulous time! We chilled out on the beach drinking coconuts and beers, swam in the ocean and went out for food. A LOT. There are tons of vegan and vegan-friendly eateries in Canggu, check out the ones we visited in "The Vegan Option: Canggu" post.

One afternoon, we all met up with my friend Cordia & her boyfriend. I originally met her on Instagram and then in person in Los Angeles a few years ago. Cordia is the founder and designer for Karma Collective, so naturally we did a photo shoot for her fabulous fashion line!

After the shoot, we hung out at La Laguna Bali, a gorgeous beachfront restaurant, for drinks and sunset.

We caught an amazing one!

Overall, Canggu had a chill, laid-back vibe and a lot of culture. The residential streets were ornately decorated in traditional Balinese decor and the people were very friendly. Prices were higher than we were used to after traveling around Vietnam, Cambodia & Thailand. The beaches were beautiful and clean and although I didn't get a chance to surf, the waves looked pretty epic!

Surrounded by rice paddy fields, you get an authentic feel wherever you go. We rented a motorbike and rode around to the various food places and checked out a couple of sunset spots. We didn't go out but there are some nightlife options in Canggu. My favorite part of this area were definitely the sunsets!

Have you ever been to Canggu? What was your favourite part?
