The 6 best diving spots in Belize

Enjoying 30 on Half Moon Caye Island.

I spent my 30th birthday (January 28, 2017) diving in Belize with Caribbean reef sharks, moray eels, sting rays, spotted eagle rays & more! It was super fun and I definitely faced one of my fears by diving the Blue Hole, going 80 feet under the sea, and hanging out with the sharks. Would you dare to?

Here are the 6 best spots I got to dive while In Belize:

1. The Great Blue Hole

This dive is a huge sinkhole that was formed when the sea level was much lower. It rose over time, causing the center to cave in, creating an underwater dive mecca. It's a UNESCO World Heritage Site and definitely a fabulous one. There are huge stalactites around which you can dive through.

I was so lucky to get to dive her on my birthday! There were no boats out on the sea that day on either island and it was the last day I would've been able to do it.  The day before, a family of 8 happened to book the tour and they had space for just one more! Everyone was shocked that it worked out as no one had high hopes except for me. I guess I should thank the universe ;)

It was definitely an eerie dive and you don't go under for very long because it's so deep. The stalactites are unreal and it's pretty intense to weave through them, coming out and looking up at the 30 Caribbean reef sharks that surrounded us!

2. Half Moon Caye Wall

Lovely dive that I did near Half Moon Caye Island, which is where its name comes from. I saw all types of tropical fish and corals!

3. The Aquarium

Probably my favorite dive! I saw Spotted Eagle Rays and their babies which I sadly lost the footage of! I am SOOO sad about that but I will just have to go back and get better footage since mine was pretty amateur! Filming underwater is definitely NOT easy, I have respect for people who do it well! I also saw various types of sharks, a moray eel, and more.

4. Hol Chan Marine Reserve

Here I saw a large diversity of underwater animals, including nurse sharks, sting rays, a peacock flounder, a lion fish, moray eels, and lovely coral reefs. The water was incredibly clear!

5. Tuffy Canyon

This dive was also nice and I enjoyed a big variety of sealife!

6. Tackle Box Canyon

I took this dive to go a bit deeper to prep for The Great Blue Hole. Here I saw sharks (although I am not sure what kind?) and got to dive through some caves.

Accommodations and more

We stayed that the Royal Caribbean Resort in Belize with my mom and my dad and it was so amazing. It's located on the beach, has a tasty restaurant and a beautiful pool. The dive shop we used was right on-site and Jovan was an amazing instructor & surf buddy.
