Serenity Eco Guesthouse is a family-run eco center that focuses on providing quality yoga programs that are accessible to all and to operating in a way that is synergistic with it's surroundings. We were impressed by the level of thought and attention that goes into the details of being environmentally friendly throughout this space. I'll talk more about the facilities and practices at Serenity Eco Guesthouse in a future article, but for now, I want to focus on highlighting their Serene Yoga Retreats.
Hey everyone! This is such an exciting post because literally all of my dreams ever manifested into reality. Pete, Zuko (our black cat) & I are finally in Costa Rica for good! I've talked A LOT on the blog about what I do in Costa Rica, so I won't recap that here but you can check out Part 1 & Part 2 to get caught up! There, I talk about the real estate deal that I was helping to broker, which actually finalized. Pete & I have been hired to manage the property: Hotel Nautilus. For me, it's a very sentimental property, as you will read if you check out Part 1 & Part 2. I will warn you that these series are a bit "wordier" than other posts on the blog. The reason for that is because so many people ask me HOW I get to live the life I live and I want to describe the process vividly. It's about ACTION & HARD WORK, and this series has chronicled some of what went into making this dream come true.
Psst... GIVEAWAY BELOW!

Have you heard of a Yogi Surprise box? It's a subscription box full of lovely conscious, health-inspired surprises! I started receiving them and it's so exciting! Each month, you get a new box (either a Lifestyle and/or a Jewelry box) with new goodies from different brands. I've received the March and the April jewelry boxes so far and I'm in love! The jewelry box has two pieces of jewelry and a piece of vegan chocolate (score!). I'm sort of a chocolate-oholic lately so this is a huge bonus for me. I'm sort of a chocolate snob! Anyone else out there particular about their chocolate bars?
Today, I'm featuring Yogi Surprise as we open up the March box and see what's inside. These cute boxes of love and awesomeness are sent out once a month so you can sign up in time for May!
The Temple Complex of Angkor Wat was built from the 6th to the 12th century (I also read 9th - 15th) and is steeped in history. There's far too much history to cover in this post, but there's plenty of information on-line about the rich and tumultuous history of the Khmer people and of Cambodia. It's worth researching and visiting if you've never been (Cambodia, in general, and Angkor Wat, for sure). Angkor Wat is probably the most popular tourist destination in Cambodia, from what I gathered, but there's definitely plenty else to see and enjoy. We thoroughly enjoyed our time in Cambodia.
Hey there! Back with more yoga fashion today. I'm loving the new spring collections that are coming out. As yoga continues to grow in popularity in the West, yoga and fitness apparel brands continue to evolve, with trends focusing on functionality and style appeal. I've owned my fair share of leggings. Today, I had the urge to wash all of my clothes - there's not much to wash... I don't have much aside from yoga clothing! Plus we were traveling for 3 months and someone was living in our house so I need to clear all the energy.
Anyway, as I was folding my leggings, I was able to think about each pair. Each has a different symbolic meaning on this journey of yoga and spiritual growth of mine and I love the different feminine aspects that each piece embodies. As yoga fashion continues to evolve, it's been cool to witness the progression of certain brands from their start to where they are now. Overall, I see brands using thicker, classier fabrics; classic cuts with hints of style and flair; prints from all over and your basic solids (black yoga clothing is always in style, and white pants are now my new fave!); supportive styles that compliment curves; and a commitment to style overall. Some looks come and go, some classics stay the same.
Yoga and fitness fashion is important because we deserve to look and feel good as we go from place to place during our day. From studio, to store, to lunch or coffee shop... I even wear many of my favorite fashion pieces in combination with other pieces to create looks for the evening.
Today, I have 4 new brands to feature today! Below, you'll find looks from Pheel Style, Malabella Jewels, Shakti Activewear & Arenose Swimwear. A gorgeous pair of leggings, a healing, magical, calming mala, a super-cute fruit hot yoga outfit & a sexy bikini await you. Plus, gorgeous photography and scenery, as always & links to shop.

Pete & I had the pleasure of spending 9 amazing & enriching days at Vagabond Temple in Sihanoukville, Cambodia. We feel so blessed for the experiences we had there, and they have followed us on our journey through Southeast Asia. We feel more spiritually connected, we have a deeper understanding of yoga and Buddhism, we were spoiled with delicious homemade vegan food, and we felt (and still feel) part of the close & welcoming community that is Vagabond Temple.
I wanted to share some essential pieces that I brought along with me (although some were photographed in San Clemente, California). You can see daily pictures of our journey on my Instagram page (follow @rima_danielle). This edition of The Fashion of Yoga includes a mala accessory, yoga leggings from an up and coming brand, and more bikinis! Let's check it out!
I've met many friends in real life that I initially met on Instagram (some of my closest friends actually!). I've traveled with them, laughed with them, created with them, and confided in them. Social media may seem silly to many, but it's ability to connect vast amounts of people from across the world within similar communities is unparalleled. Leveraging social media gives many brands that extra edge over their competition, regardless of the industry. When thinking about the yoga community, what is it that makes some yoga profiles better than others?
Gabbi was referred to me for weekly Reiki energy healing sessions. I also recommended gentle restorative yoga to help her body heal and to improve body awareness. Right before she came to see me, her arthritis inflamed and she threw out her back. She was curled into a ball in pain so she started researching yoga for sciatic nerve pain. She created a home practice that helped, so she was open to learning more yoga.
It may be white winter time in certain parts of the world, but here in Southern California, the sun is shining and we're enjoying the beach well into December. I feel truly blessed to live in such an amazing place! And even more blessed that I get to continue showing off my new yoga looks while others are layering with fleece and faux furs (keep the fashion cruelty free, please!). Let's take a look!
As we near the end of 2015, I am overcome by gratitude for all that's unfolding, has unfolded, and will unfold around me. This has been the best year of my life, as the year before was, & the year before that. Bottom line: things just keep getting better, and I have no doubts that 2016 will be the same - EPIC as ever. I have a never-ending faith in the process of what is, and this faith allows me to enjoy each moment, finally able to let go of attachments & nostalgia. Learning to live without material attachments, nostalgia for the past , or a fear of missing out is a constant practice & journey. Living a nomadic, entrepreneurial lifestyle has helped me to make great progress in the regards.
Fashion may not be the first thing that comes to mind when you think of yoga. However, if you're spending the majority of your time teaching classes in studios or private lessons in offices or homes, working in a studio, or simply being active - chances are you want to look good while you're doing it. Heck, you may just be sitting on your couch watching Netflix - nothing beats the perfect pair of yoga pants.
I met the gorgeous and talented Alexis Franklin (aka Yoga Warrior Goddess) earlier in 2015 after we formed an Instagram relationship. She participated in our challenge called #WakeUpYogis and caught everyone's attention with her fantastic photos and graceful yoga practice. We started chatting and instantly formed a close bond. She came to LA to and we met there and had a lovely time getting to know one another! Since then, we've spent a lot of time together both in person, on the phone, on Skype, and through Instagram, collaborating on many projects together (like each designing a pair of yoga shorts for Daughters of Culture, photoshoots, challenges, a future retreat, our blog launches, and more)! It's been a challenge for me to meet really solid people both professionally and personally and if there's one thing I can say about Alexis is that she's a solid woman. She's reliable, hardworking, organized, motivated, and talented!
... with LOTS OF PICTURES!!!!!
You've been warned. There's lots of pictures coming your way. As I sit here, the Saturday after my retreat ended, reflecting on all of the experiences & adventures we packed into 7 nights and 8 days, I am blown away. It's difficult for me to fathom what the retreat guests must be experiencing right now, as I know that it took me a couple of days to reacclimate back to life and to process what had happened - and I've done this many times before! On our time, we had two people that had never traveled outside of the United States before! They had quite the adventure. It's going to be difficult to write succinctly on this memorable week as so many amazing things happened, but I'll try to keep it brief! I hope you will consider joining us in 2016. I'm working on an event calendar now so please let me know what time of the year works best for you! Join my mailing list to stay up-to-date with the latest news!
I'm back in Santa Teresa, Costa Rica - my favorite place in the world! I've covered my trips a few times on the blog so if you want some more reading when you're done here, check this page out. This trip, I'm here for two weeks. I arrived on Monday (it's Friday now) and have been working to close a real estate deal that I talked about in this article. Closing the deal will change our life dramatically, so I've been working as hard as I can to learn, create, accomplish, & flow. Pete and I will have a nice cushion to move here as well as manage the property that sells. Due to reasons of confidentiality, I'm unable to disclose at this moment the specifics of the deal, but rest assured that Part 2 of this article will give the full resolution of the story - no matter which outcome occurs.
The second part of my trip is a retreat with Yoga Travel Tree! I am so excited to teach a group of eager yogis and take them around my favorite parts of Costa Rica. Stay tuned for photos on Instagram and live scopes on Periscope!
What is Kapalabhati?
- A form of breath control.
- In Sanskrit. Kapal means "skull" and "bhati" means "illuminating". The increase of oxygen and prone illuminates the skull, face, and skin! It's purifying for the frontal brain, as well.
- Part of the yogic principles of the body cleansing techniques - shatkarma. Therefore, it's cleaning as well as breath work.
- You focus on the exhales instead of the inhales (inhales happen naturally)
- Traditionally done for 3 rounds for 30 pumps of breath each round.
- A very meditative practice - aligns both hemispheres of the brain.
- Can be practiced daily.
